Tikona fort history

Tikona fort is also called vitandgad. Tikona fort is located near kamshet. Nearest village to tikona fort is tikona peth. The hill on which this fort is situated is pyramidal in shape and thats why the name tikona is given to this fort, tikona means triangular. Tikona fort is located at a height of 3500 ft. Tikona fort is ruined and not in very good condition. There is a temple of trimbakeshwar mahadev on tikona fort. Also seven big water tanks is a attraction on tikona fort.

Now lets understand tikona fort history. There is interesting history associated with tikona fort. There is very little information about tikona fort history. Tikona fort was found out in 7th or 8th century AD, but the information about origin of tikona fort is still unknown. 

1) Malik ahmad nizam shah of nizam shahi dynasty have battled and brought the tikona fort under nizam territory in 1585. 

2) In 1657 shivaji maharaj battle against nizam and brought the tikona fort under maratha empire, along with songad, karnala, mahuli, lonhagad, visapur and tala forts.

3) In tikona fort history, tikona have served as a center of control for pawan maval area.

4) In 1660 dhamale deshmukh from maval region have given a task of security of tikona fort.

5) Letter on a important point in tikona fort history happen. According to treaty of purandar signed on 12 June 1665 tikona fort was given to mughal warrior kubud khan.

6) When the fort was under mughal warrior kubud khan, it was recaptured by maratha empire.

7) In 1682 the son of aurangjeb, akabar was offered a stay at tikona fort by king sambhaji maharaj, after there meeting with akabar. But the environment of tikona is not suited to akabar hence he moved further to jaitapur.

8) In 1818 a battle took place between marathas and British and the fort was captured by British.

9) This was the tikona fort history, now the tikona fort is under government of India.

How to go to tikona fort

Tikona fort is about 60 km from pune and about 38 km from lonavala. Tikona fort is close to kamshet. Tikona fort is about 26 km from kamshet. Tikona fort is a good place for trekking. For stay there are hotels available at kamshet. Tikona fort is close to a village called tikona peth, tea and snacks are also available at tikona peth. There is no entry fee for tikona fort.
